Since the begining of time, Genghis Cohen has been booked by J.T. Presents, which also handles the booking for Molly Malones, an Irish Pub further South on Fairfax. The club features acoustic acts, mostly singer/songwriters or songwriters backed by small light bands. The Music Room has a new Mackie 16 track board, mains, 4 monitors (2 mixes) , shure mikes & atlas stands, outboard gear plus the ability to go direct with most insruments. The room is quite live, yet warm, and seats 60+ people. Additional standing room is available in the bar, and, when necessary, on the adjoining enclosed patio. The club is known as one of the most intimate, best sounding rooms in LA. JT is an avid fly fisher who can usually be found at the club when he is not on the water. His first club, The Breakaway (1988), was one of the first acoustic style clubs in LA. A compilation CD (Chameleon) was released at the time featuring many of the finest songwriters in LA. Originally from North Jersey, JT grew up listing to Crosby Stills, Nash, & Young, Joni Mitchell, The Allman Brothers and The Dead. JT became interested in live music while attending college at USF in Tampa, FL. JT assisted in promoting concerts featuring artists such as: Karla Bonoff, Warren Zevon, The Allmans Bros. etc. When he arrived in LA he was mentored by Matt Kramer from the original music club, "At My Place." Styles of music range at GC but the format is songwriter based featuring great talent with something to say. Most of the acts are local but there are a lot of unsigned touring artists on the bill these days. Most out of town acts need to have some sort of connection to play the room ie: label interest, family or friends in the area, or a local group to pair up with. |
